Development for School Professionals

The New Jersey Department of Education has designated the Star and Barry Tobias Health Awareness Center/Student Health Awareness Center as a service provider for continuing education credits mandated for all teachers within the state. In addition to pre-scheduled professional development workshops and programs for schools nurses, in-services are available on a variety of topics for presentation at your location.
Featured Workshops for School Professionals
The Student Health Awareness Center hosts at least one professional development workshop annually on topics of interest and concern to school professionals. All of our workshops receive New Jersey Department of Education professional development hours.

Workshops for School Nurses
Workshops for school nurses are scheduled on a monthly basis from October to June, from 4:30-7:30 p.m. Past topics have included:
  • Advanced First Aid Techniques
  • Caring for Children with Diabetes
  • Cutting and Self-Injury
  • An Update on Screenings
  • Childhood Obesity: Implications for School Nursing Practice

School Faculty/Staff In-Services

Programs are available for teachers and other school professionals for presentation at faculty meetings, in-service days, and special events. Among the topics available are the following: School Violence Prevention

  • Drug Awareness Update 
  • CPR training
  • First Aid for Coaches
